Norwegian Correctional Services and the bombings Friday 22 July

2011-07-26

The main government building, where the Correctional Services Department of the Ministry of Justice is located, was heavily damaged in the attacks on 22 July. There were no casualties, but several staff members of the Correctional Services Department were injured. Regular work will resume as soon as possible and the Ministry of Justice has been temporarily relocated to the Police Academy in Oslo.

Care for staff members
The main priority is  first of all the care for staff members, those directly affected, but also those that were not present in the building during the attack. In addition to professional help being offered, there are information meetings. The staff is also offered to meet in more informal settings.
- Currently, our priority is to take care of one another. It is important to stay together and talk about what has happened. Everyone also need information, and we are now systematically addressing this, says director general Marianne Vollan.
Operational as soon as possible
- At the same time we shall not stop, but continue our work. Our aim is to be fully operational as soon as possible. All correctional service staff will receive information. There has been established a new phone number to the correctional service for everyone to use, both in connection with ongoing matters or for general information. This number is: +47 959 51 517.
