About The Norwegian Correctional Services

The Norwegian Correctional Services are responsible for carrying out remands in custody and penal sanctions in a way that takes into consideration the security of all citizens and attempts to prevent recidivism by enabling the offenders, through their own initiatives, to change their criminal behaviour. The Correctional Services make remand places available to the police and execute penal sentences that have been imposed.
The Norwegian Correctional Services are organized on three levels:
- the Norwegian Correctional Services (central level) (KSF)
- six regional administrations
- local prisons and probation offices
In addition, there is the Correctional Service of Norway Staff Academy (KRUS) and the Correctional Services' IT Centre which is placed directly under KSF.
The Norwegian Correctional Services (central level) (KSF)
The central level of the Norwegian Correctional Services (KSF) is responsible for the professional and administrative management of correctional services in Norway. It is an integral part of the Correctional Services Department of the Ministry of Justice and is headed by Director General Marianne Vollan.The Regional Administration and Local Units
The Correctional Services are divided into six regions:- Correctional Services, Eastern Norway
- Correctional Services, Northeastern Norway
- Correctional Services, Southern Norway
- Correctional Services, Southwestern Norway
- Correctional Services, Western Norway
- Correctional Services, Northern Norway
